Did you stop at one time to appreciate the beauty and function of the glass that covers your window? Did you even realise their importance aside from the fact that it keeps the wind and dust out of your office? Well, maybe it is time that you do since it requires science, skills and technology to create them. You may have noticed that those clear sheets have evolved compared to ten or twenty years ago. In fact there are now different types of glass that are used in residential and commercial properties.
Tempered, for example, is created for safety features. It is four to five times stronger than your regular sheet that makes it resistant to easy breakage. Of course, it is not entirely invincible since it is still brittle in nature. However, when it does breaks, it is reduced to smaller pieces and not to sharp shards. Additionally, its manufacturing process involves extreme heating and then, rapid cooling, which makes it extremely durable. Its high level of heat resistance makes it a recommended material to be used for public structures, as mandated in the building codes.
Laminated is another type of glass that can be used for buildings that require soundproofing. It is created by layering vinyl materials between two panes similar to making a sandwich. Due to its thickness it is more durable and it provides the best protection from UV rays. In addition, it serves as protection from burglary since it is difficult to break and is impenetrable to many glass-cutting devices.
Tinted is a recommended solution if you want to allow a desired amount of light and heat to come in while giving you the privacy you need. It is usually treated with a variety of film or coating according to what you prefer. The creative way the tints are used will not only add appeal and character to the building, but keep the interior cooler as well.
Lastly, there is an energy-efficient or Low-E variety that controls heat that comes in and out of your home or office. With it in place, you will not need to utilise your cooling system as often as you used to or for a longer period of time.
Whatever you decide to use, make sure that you keep it in good condition. Proper cleaning and maintenance is all it takes to make reflective sheets shining and sparkling.
